Yori-Aki Matsudaira

    <Biography>

  Yori-Aki MATSUDAIRA was born in Tokyo in March 27th 1931.
    He studied the biology at Tokyo Metropolitan University
      He is self-taught in both piano and composition.
    From 1957 to 60, he used of serial procedures.
      The next 6 years he interested in the indeterminacy.
        For 10 years from 1966, he composed with the combining technique,
          as defined by American artist, Robert Rauschenberg.
            From 1972, he turned to the new modal music.
              Recently, he has been establishing the pitch-interval technique
                as the extention of the modal technique.
      His pieces has been selected for the World Music Days,
        held by the ISCM (International Society for Contemporary Music)
          for 9 times, 1958, '67, '69, '72, '75, '84, '87, '91, and '93.
            In 1990, he was awarded the special prize of Moeck Verlag at
              the 3rd Kazimierz Serocki International Competition for Composition.
        Since 1982 to 1991 (every year), 1997 and 2001,
          he has held the concerts for his chamber pieces,
            and in 1995 and 2005, orchestral pieces (in Tokyo).
          From 1998 to 2002, he was the president of the Japanese section of ISCM,
            and invited the World Music Days in Yokohama in 2001.
